(LEESBURG, FL 2019) Elder Law is a new practice area for the McLin Burnsed firm, but not for its newest attorney, Teresa K. Bowman. Ms. Bowman has practiced exclusively in the area of elder law since 2006, providing a wide array of services to individuals and families dealing with the issues of aging and
disability. Ms. Bowman focuses her practice on estate planning to include planning for incapacity, avoidance of guardianship, and asset protection. She advises clients on the availability and eligibility requirements under the vast umbrella of Medicaid. As a VA accredited attorney, Ms. Bowman advises clients
on benefits that can assist with in-home care as they age. In addition, Ms. Bowman assists families and individuals with special needs in qualifying for and protecting government benefits. She is a passionate advocate of elder rights, helping to protect people from inadequate treatment in nursing homes and assisted living facilities, and exploitation.
“I enjoy helping people plan for the unexpected so that no matter what happens, they’re as well protected as possible,” says Ms. Bowman. “Solid advice coupled with compassion is what families dealing with illness and disability need. As an elder law attorney, my job is to provide both. It is a highly specific legal area, one that I’m proud to practice. It involves educating your client, offering them specifically tailored solutions, and then guiding them through the chosen path”.
Ms. Bowman and attorney Christina Campbell will compose the firm’s Elder Law team, providing estate planning as well as elder-specific services such as long-term care planning, veterans benefits, Medicaid eligibility, disability/special needs planning, and probate and trust administration.
Expansion into Elder Law is an important evolution for McLin Burnsed, as Census predictions have 1 in 5 people in the US at retirement age by 2030. “It is never too soon to plan for what’s ahead,” says Ms. Bowman. “And I do everything in my power to make it a comfortable and easy process.”
