John Metcalf was born in Little Rock, Arkansas and grew up in Houston, Texas. After completing six years of military service in the U.S. Navy, he attended the University of Houston-Clear Lake where he was an officer of Omicron Delta Kappa and earned his Bachelor of Science in Accountancy in 1993. John Metcalf began his professional career as a Certified Public Accountant (Arthur Anderson LLP. and later with Ernst & Young LLP.) and is a CPA in both Texas and North Carolina. Mr. Metcalf is also admitted to the Texas Bar.

John Metcalf attended the University of Florida College of Law and earned his Juris Doctorate in May, 2004. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in September of that same year. Additionally, John Metcalf is a member of the American Bar Association, the American Association for Justice, the Lake County Bar Association and the Lake-Sumter Inns of Court.

John Metcalf assists Firm partner Phillip Smith in handling complex civil commercial litigation and is certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a County Court Mediator (2004).
